I’m best known out there as a performance poet, and released a couple of successful albums (you can hear all my existing audio tracks at my bandcamp site). But my first release back in 2009 was a book, ‘Flying on the Lucid Fringe’, published by Crazy Diamond Press here in Muizenberg (old copies still available directly from me). I’ve recorded some of them here, an interesting task of reflection back to an earlier life stage for me, and I still enjoyed revisiting these words.
The poems spoken here are:
Let’s Talk Beanstalk (speaks for itself)
Above Kalk Bay (one of my favourite spots to contemplate our history)
Song for Nic Le Roux (old friend and musician I also spoke of in Cape of Sounds)
Return to N!Au’ma (magical spot in the little Karoo where I was part of local ceremonies)
still point spin (quantum physics and stuff)
To Some Men I Know (inspired by Jacob Zuma and his infamous shower)
Eden II (a quirky piece of love)
Flow, Cash, Flow (can we be poetic about globalized capitalism?)
Beyond the Blackboard (on the education crisis)
Easter of Good Hope (a ceremonial piece, for the Cape autumn equinox… which is also today!)
